About Us

Information Technology is one of the most dynamic fields in the modern world. Information Technology or “InfoTech” evolved when computing and communicating technologies amalgamated. It prepares the students to meet the technical demands of business, government, healthcare, military, education, and other organizations. Information Technology is used in almost every sphere of profession, making the process much easier, by developing competant and effective solutions to real life problems. IT sector is growing at fast pace and creating ample opportunities in India and abroad for deserving candidates having employable skills.

Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2001 and has 12 well qualified faculty members with expertise in various fields of Information Technology who exerts dedicated work to produce high caliber technocrats. Of them, two have completed their doctoral degrees and six of them are pursuing their doctoral degrees. The objective of the department is to prepare the students to face challenges in the changing world. IT Professionals will find their career in various key areas like Artificial Intelligence, Augumented Reality, Data Analytics, Networking, Data Management, Multimedia and Computer graphics, Communications, Web Technology, Software Designs, Management and Administration of Systems.

Program Educational Objectives(PEO):
PEO 1: Graduates of the programme will exhibit expertise in technical knowledge by applying distinctive skills in various fields of Information Technology
PEO 2: Graduates will become pioneers in the field of Information Technology by working collaboratively and providing solutions to meet societal needs through persistent learning
PEO 3: Graduates will be able to adopt innovative practices and contribute towards research and technological development in the field of Information Technology through Total Quality Education
Program Outcomes(POs)

Engineering graduates will be able to

PO 1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO 2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO 3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO 4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO 5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
PO 6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
PO 7: Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
PO 8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
PO 9: Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
PO 10:  Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PSO 1: Design and develop applications in the field of Information Technology by applying the knowledge acquired from Computer Organization & Engineering, Networking, Software Engineering & Programming, Data Analytics & other allied topics.
PSO 2: Demonstrate an ability to analyze ,design, and develop software solutions to cater the needs of diversified business sectors

Facilities
1. Individual computer for each student with Internet access through Reliance 85 Mpbs and BSNL 40 Mbps 1:1 leased line is ensured during lab hours.
2. Department library with 430 Engineering books and 30 Journals in recent technologies to enrich the student’s knowledge.
3. Department has dedicated seminar hall with seating capacity of eighty.
4. All classrooms are equipped to enable ICT mode of Teaching Methodology.
5. Department provides various flavours of operating systems like: Windows, Linux and MAC.
Collaboration with companies and other Institutions
1. MoU with IBM for establishing three specialty Labs viz., Cyber Security, Clouding Computing and Mobility.
2. Department has signed MoU with STYRE (AATC), Bangalore to offer iOS App Development course.
3. MoU with EMC2 for conducting International Certification on “Cloud Infrastructure and Services”.
4. Department has linkage with top class institutions like Institute for Technology, Management and Research Institute (ITMR), India and Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University Warwick, U.K. who are pioneers in the field of cyber security.
5. Collaboration with companies like GUVI to equip the students to be industry ready.
6. Full Stack Developer program in collaboration with Aurora Technovation to make our students work in real time industrial projects during their course of study.
Projects Developed
1. Our department faculty members have developed ERP in College Automation and successfully completed Parent Corner.
2. Our department students and faculty members have developed VETA, an Online Forum Connecting Virudhunagar based Engineers and Technologists all around the World with students and faculty members.
3. In TNSTC Student Project Scheme 2017 – 2018, three of our 2014 – 2018 batch students’ project titled "Automatic Defect Detection in Fabric using Gabor Filter" was selected and implemented successfully.
Measures to improve Teaching Learning Process
1. Faculty members update their knowledge in par with current academic, research and industrial needs by taking up courses in NPTEL, UDEMY, COURSERA, attending FDPs and Workshops at NITs and IITs and undergo internships in industries.
2. The department regularly organizes Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), Short Term Training Programmes (STTPs), Winter/Summer School Programmes, research seminars and invited talks for our faculty members based on the curriculum and the recent trends in IT industries
3. Periodic guest lectures, hands on training programmes and workshops are conducted for the students to supplement their curriculum, sponsored by our college. This facilitates our students to update their knowledge on par with the industry standards.
4. Training the students for GATE and UPSC Examinations to improve the employability potential.
5. Motivating the students to participate in the national level technical events such as web designing, Technical Quiz and Paper presentation.
